Peddlers Cross

McCain not scared of Sacre

Donald McCain is concentrating on Peddlers Cross rather than his potential opposition in the Arkle Trophy at Cheltenham next month.

The Cheshire handler saw his star performer well beaten by Arkle favourite Sprinter Sacre at Kempton over Christmas and the latter further enhanced his claims with a spectacular performance in the Game Spirit Chase at Newbury last week.

McCain remains adamant that Peddlers Cross was not at his best at Kempton and he plans to give him a racecourse gallop before renewing rivalry with Nicky Henderson's Sprinter Sacre at the Festival.

"There is not much to say other than he (Sprinter Sacre) was very impressive and he beat them as you would expect," said McCain.

"We'll be doing what is right for our horse and there is still a bit of work to go yet before Cheltenham.

"We'll probably take him for a racecourse gallop somewhere, but I'm not sure where yet."
