There's no catching Tayarat and Alice Mills at the last

Ludlow shocker for punters

A run-of-the-mill handicap hurdle at Ludlow had huge consequences for in-running and outright punters thanks to the 100-1 winner Tayarat.

Michael Chapman's gelding, who had been well beaten in sellers on the Flat and over hurdles this month, finished tailed off at Market Rasen on Sunday but ended up making every yard of the Henley Hall Gold Cup Handicap Hurdle.

The seven-year-old traded at far bigger odds on Betfair, and their spokesman Tony Calvin said: "The winning industry SP may have been 100-1, but that was the price it paid at Betfair's place SP. The winning SP was a massive 769-1."

He added: "There was £40 matched on the winner at our maximum odds of 999-1 pre-race and it was also backed at 839-1 in running. So in pure price terms, it was as big a shock as you will get on Betfair."

Tayarat, a first winner for amateur Alice Mills, was challenged by J'Adhere on the run-in but pulled away again to score by two and a quarter lengths.
