Brown Panther

Black swoops for Panther

Michael Owen has sold half of his St Leger runner-up Brown Panther to Betfair co-founder Andrew Black.

Writing on trainer Tom Dascombe's website, Owen revealed he has turned down several offers for the Royal Ascot winner, but could not refuse Black's terms. Black has been heavily involved in the process of building up Owen's Manor House Stables in Cheshire into a major force.

"I'm delighted to announce that Brown Panther will be transferred to our turquoise silks, having agreed a deal to sell 50% of him to my partner, Andrew 'Bert' Black," said Owen.

"During the last few months I have received numerous offers, culminating in one I could not refuse.

"Prior to accepting, and in light of us owning Manor House Stables, breeding stock and racehorses together, I informed Bert of my decision and offered him first refusal to buy 50%.

"I am delighted he accepted and we look forward to mapping out his season's campaign together under Tom's guidance."
