Captain’s Blog, March 15
The Festival is nearly upon us and Racing UK are ready to bring you every race live over the next four days. The boys in the office have been burning the midnight oil to get everything ready for tomorrow and onwards and the work will continue right up to the final race on Friday afternoon. I am getting ready as well, my flask has come out of the cupboard and is ready to roar back into action. I have also been to Tesco’s to purchase ample provisions for the week.
In terms of punting the first day will be the most important because in order to have a good Festival you need to get ahead early on, the one thing you do not want to do is end up chasing your day one losses throughout the rest of the Festival. Here on the Blog we will be flying if Khyber Kim can win the Champion Hurdle, he was our 70/1 selection after his first win of the season and I will be pretty vocal if he gets into the shake up in the Champion. He should go well and Paddy Brennan is certainly very confident. I see the main dangers being Go Native and Punjabi, both have proved that they go well at the track and the drying ground is very much in their favour.
I will be posting my blog every day next week from the booth. We are on air at 9.00am every day and I will have the Blog with you by 10.00am every morning with some thoughts on the days action and some bets as well.
We went to the Rugby at Harlequins yesterday to watch a bottom of the table clash between the Quinns and Salford. It would be an understatement to say that it was a scrappy game, but in the end in an exciting finish Salford emerged victorius to the delight of their loyal travelling fans. Both teams are going to struggle this year particularly Harlequins who have a few injuries but also seem clueless under pressure. We cycled to the ground and home which meant we got some fresh air and exercise on a day that just about resembled Spring. Today is just as Spring like and I will be spending a bit of time in the garden trying to smarten he borders up after they took a battering during the winter.
That’s it for today, except to say make sure you tune in to our Cheltnham preview on racing UK today where the boys will be having a look at the Festival Handicaps. I will be back tomorrow live from the booth.
Tiddiliwinks won for us here on the Blog on Saturday at 5/1 under a superb ride from Jamie Spencer. Hopefully we can win a few more betting tokens for Cheltenham today as well.
