On entering the office my colleague Nick Lightfoot read out Donald McCain’s thoughts on Wymott in today’s Weekender. It’s three weeks today that fingers crossed he will be lining up against Time For Rupert and co in the RSA Chase and my nerves are jangling; one of the main reasons I don’t usually bet ante-post!
Yesterday there was a glimmer of light that the form was returning. Hard Tackle can have a thick line put through him, he just wasn’t good enough. Robbie Henderson, I felt, should have been a bit more positive on Lidjo De Rouge but a fair fifth. I was a bit worried though his price was only 11-1 having taken him just to finish in the frame in the morning. Numide and Johnny Farrelly were caught napping and although he probably wouldn’t have won he should have caused a photo for win rather than that of second.
Enough of the excuses, time to get back on the winning trail and today I rely on WOGAN. Mr Doncaster as I like to call him has an ideal opportunity in the veteran’s chase at 3.40. He ran well behind King Fontaine when we last saw him in November and his trainer is in excellent form. 'Muggins’, as I should be known, has backed Moose Moran for the Triumph and was gutted when he should have put up a better performance at Sandown on debut. He races another ex flat horse in Comedy Act and the race should be well worth a watch.
When looking at Ludlow I couldn’t believe Font’s price on the exchanges for the 2.45, at the time of writing at 10am he was 7-4 against! For now let’s hope WOGAN puts me back on track with a win, if not we have to rely on Manele Bay on Friday at Sandown.
