Captain’s Blog, March 9
I had a relatively relaxed day yesterday and to be honest did very little. I did however spend a good deal of time on YouTube watching some of Neil Young’s greatest performances and making a list of those songs I want to download for my iPod.
For me Neil Young is a genius and is right up there with Bruce Springsteen for me especially when they involve themselves in the lyrics of Woody Guthrie. As I travelled through YouTube I came across a version of ‘Dancing in the Dark’ sung by a young Scottish Lass called Amy Macdonald and it blew me away.
She is just about to release her second album and has a tremendous voice. Check her out when you get time you will not regret it. I also discovered some Jeff Buckley stuff that I really liked so today I will be going into download mode and getting my iPod organised. I am also planning on getting out on the bike for a few hours today as well, the weather is a little milder and I really do need to work off the excess of the weekend somehow. Of course the cycling will be that more enjoyable with some new music to listen to as I go.
I hope you watched the Racing UK Cheltenham Preview yesterday. I am sure it helped you to fine-tune your thoughts for the Festival which is only a week away. My role during Cheltenham involves spending all four days in the booth supporting my colleagues on course and helping out with our comprehensive coverage. The four days is a massive team effort with everybody pulling together to make the coverage as good as we can, the end product being the most important thing. It is during these four days that I get my torpedo out, read into that what you will, but in this case torpedo refers to my large silver flask which I take to the booth with me every day, I usually have it full of coffee to keep me wired an fine tuned for our coverage. This year however I am facing a half marathon two days after the Festival finishes so I need to keep the toxins as low as possible and may well opt for the soup option. I am sure you are far from interested about what is in my flask next week, but this is a blog and I have got nothing to hide!
Time has beaten me folks. See you tomorrow.
