Captain’s Blog March 06

The Morning Line is on the Television and A P McCoy is the special guest. He is hardly enthusing about the chances of Denman in the Gold Cup, indeed he seems quite downbeat. Maybe some of the criticism that he has received lately has got to him. The establishment has rallied round him though and has closed ranks around their champion. In such a comfortable environment you would think he would smile a little more though. Not to worry Soccer am will be on shortly and you can be guaranteed a laugh or two when those guys get going.

I am heading to the office today to present Mark Your Card with Dave Nevison. The show starts at 12.30 and we will be looking ahead to the big races of the day. Please email your selections for the day to the usual address, studio@racinguk.com.  We will also be chatting to Nick Luck who is in Ireland at the moment taking part in various Cheltenham previews. I do not know which station the gravy train has pulled into today so am not sure exactly where he is, but I do know that he is going to tell us abou the five most talked about horses in Ireland for this years Festival which will be very interesting.

I have to admit that my punting has been far from succesful lately and I am looking for the tide to turn today. January and February were good month’s but so far in March I have had something of a nightmare. It will be back to basics today with just a few small bets so that hopefully I can turn over a small profit and get some confidence back. It really is all about confidence and  the only way to gather momentum again is to simply have a small winning day and then build on that. An example of my lack of luck at the moment was in the Rugby League last night. I fancied Wigan to beat Bradford and when they were 20-0 up at half time my judgement looked to be spot on. Forty minutes later they had lost 22-20. What a nightmare. I should have layed off at half time at a very short price but foolishly thought the money was in the bag and the bag was in my office. Must do better reads my punting report for the last week and doing better starts today.

Right its time for me to get a move on and make my way to the office to get ready for Mark Your Card. All the best for the weekend to you all.
