Captain's Blog, November 24

I will be taking it easy today for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I am felling a bit rough having contracted the dreaded lurgy a few days ago and secondly I am determined to stay awake long enough to watch the first ball of the Ashes test tonight. The question is once I have watched the first ball then how long will I stay glued to the action? When I watch cricket I always find myself watching just one more over and then another and another until I have watched the whole game. If I follow that policy tonight I will be up all night which will hardly be conducive to getting rid of the lurgy. I will need to demonstrate a bit of hitherto unknown discipline if I am going to get any sleep at all. I have been watching a lot of the excellent build up on Sky Sports and cannot wait that is if I can stay awake long enough.

There is some excellent action coming up on Racing UK in the next few days and in truth it starts today with the sport coming from Wetherby this afternoon and Kempton this evening. Indeed please do get involved in tonights Kempton programme for which Lydia Hislop and Steve Mellish will be your hosts. They are sure to be running the rule over the hottest topics in the Racing World at the moment and will no doubt find you plenty of winners as well. As ever the mail address is studio@racinguk.com.

My form at the moment has hit rock bottom. After a really profitable week last week I have contrived to find a few losers which have set me back somewhat. Both my selections yesterday ran well without ever threatening to get involved and in truth I just need a winner at any price to get my confidence up a little. I will be going back to basics to try and get something going again because when you try and get too clever in this game the game always proves it is cleverer than you!

Time to bid you farewell, see you tomorrow.
