Captain's Blog, November 2

Good Morning everyone. I hope November started well for you all yesterday. It was not too bad for yours truly with our two each way selections both making the frame at 4/1 and 11/2. In truth neither looked like winning but betting is all about minimising your losses when things are not going your way and yesterday was a case in point.

I have to admit I did not get up in time to watch the Melbourne Cup but will be watching a replay later, but I must say with the Ashes just around the corner I have derived some pleasure form the Aussies getting beaten again. They lost a T20 International against Sri Lanka the other day and now a French raider has gone and won the race that stops a nation. Trained by Alain De Royer Dupre and ridden by Gerald Mosse this horse had advertised his credentials by winning the Geelong Cup. He was formerly trained in America by Todd Pletcher and I would venture to say that he has thus far been trained by two of the best trainers on the planet and with this win he really has reached his true potential. Royer Dupre is fast becoming a superb target trainer and this win will raise him to hitherto unknown heights. All in all even if it was a win for our French cousins it was good to get one over on the Aussies, they must be quaking in their boots with the Ashes just 23 days away. If only Alain Royer Dupre could work a little bit of his magic on our boys down under then we would be certainties.

I am off work today before embarking on a busy spell for Racing UK which will involve a couple of Kempton Twilight meetings as well as some French action from Enghien. It is a while since I have worked with the crazy frog Claude Charlet and I am looking forward to working with him again on Friday. For now though I am off to the Gym for a spot of interval training with a group of other fellow madmen, after which I will be settling down to try and make a few quid this afternoon. Racing UK will be covering all te action at Catterick and Kempton and there is bound to be some more developments in the jockeys championship as Hughes and Hanagan are both in action at Kempton.

For today I bid you farewell and wish you all the best.
