Ayr Newmarket Warwick
The horse population looks to be thriving by the amount of runners on todays three cards. A fortnight ago up at Ayr we had a maximum field of twenty seven for the Bronze cup, yet today over the same course and distance there are two divisions of twelve. It seems a daily occurence to divide any race nowadays and I for one cannot understand the reasoning of two mediocre races over the same distance simply for the sake of it. Paul Hanagan returns to the fray today and hopefully can get back amongst the winners with Cosmic Sun. A decent staying handicap also at Warwick with plenty of Yorkshire raiders in with a chance, bottom weight Red Fama is of interest for Neville Bycroft.
The quality card is at headquarters, and the Rowley Mile course looks certain to take a hammering on rain softened ground this weekend, apart from his Voltigeur flop, Harris Tweed has had a wonderful season and he looks the best bet on the card in the Noel Murless stakes. The Somerville Tattersalls stakes looks tricky, and I take a chance with Rerouted after his decent run in the competitive nursery at Doncaster’s Leger meeting.
