Captain's Blog, September 24

I am at home for the day today which as a concept is a good one but it does not tell the whole story because the list of chores for the day is growing by the minute. At the moment my usual Friday morning trip to Tesco’s is still on the agenda as is a visit to the tip to get rid of some stray cardboard. On top of these particular projects I also need to get to the Gym to go for a run that I intended to do yesterday but for which I lacked the necessary motivation. I think my motivation today is much better and the Gym bag is already packed so I am hopeful that all tasks will be completed before I settle down for some punting this afternoon. I feel tired even writing about doing all this stuff which is pathetic really but once I am up and running literally it should be a walk in the park.

It was a pleasure to see Kieren Fallon ride a treble at Pontefract yesterday. He is riding as well as he ever has done and in my opinion is the best jockey riding at the moment. Some people if not many will disagree with me and will tell me that Paul Hanagan is riding better than everybody. Paul is a superb jockey but he is not in Fallon’s league. Fallon has always had that extra something which makes him stand out from the crowd and at the moment he is standing head and shoulders above the rest. If you did not see his treble yesterday tune in to Racing Replay now and watch the first three races at Pontefract and watch a master of his craft in action.

No joy with our selection yesterday which to be honest ran no sort of race at all. That’s the way it goes sometimes an we are back with a clean sheet to work with today. The pressure is on today because a mate of mine is going to Ascot today and has asked me for some tips. I am on a hiding to nothing with this kind of thing, but I will have a quick look at the card after finishing here and try and help him out. I suspect I will tell him to be on Polly’s mark in the big race there, as this horse is a lover of the green polytrack at Ascot and Richard Hughes is on board which is good news because he gets a real tune out of Clive Cox’s horse. In fact if the price is right I may well tip it here on the blog. Time for me to find a couple of selections for today.

All the best.
