Captain's Blog, April 17
It has been a good morning so far given that I have discovered that the NRL (Australian Rugby league) is back on our screens on a Saturday morning. If you are interested it can be found on SKY Channel 433 and is well worth a watch. If you want a heads up on a couple of teams to look out for I would advise you to watch out for the Manly Sea Eagles and the Melbourne Storm. I was lucky enough to see the Melbourne Storm play at Twickenham this year and they are an awesome outfit.
All roads lead to Nottingham for me today. I will be presenting our coverage from there with Dave Nevison as my guest. We will be starting at 5.00pm and in doing so will be joining the late afternoon coverage on RUK of some excellent afternoon meetings. At Newbury it is Greenham day and at Ayr it is the Scottish Grand National, we will also be at Thirsk and Bangor as well. A really busy day then on your favourite racing channel. The Greenham looks like a quality race this year and I have put together some speed figures for it.
Arcano 115
Bullwhip 70
Canford Cliffs 119
Dick Turpin 105
Rodrigo de torres 77
On the face of it this race is a match between Canford Cliffs and Arcano. Canford’s figure was achieved at Ascot in the Coventry and Arcano achieved his figure in the July stakes. Both races were over six furlongs, but neither should have a problem with today’s trip of seven. I will not be having a bet because I am slightly suspicious of the Canford Cliffs figure because it was achieved at Ascot (the green Polytrack). If he does run as fast as his figure there suggests he can he will win but this race is one to watch rather than to bet on.
There is plenty of racing to go at today and hopefully we can find a winner or two to make up for a poor day yesterday.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the sun.
