Captains Blog April 16

The figures were right yesterday and Elusive Pimpernel went in for us at 11/8. His win in the Craven Stakes was impressive, but as a word of caution I would add that the horses he beat have never achieved a triple digit speed figure and he only did what he should have done. He will face a far sterner test in the 2000 Guineas for which he is available at 6/1 with Victor Chandler at the moment. Our other each way selection yesterday was Mullionmileanhour who was beaten a short head in the Abernant Stakes and was in front just before and just after the line, unlucky but that is the way it goes. We have plenty of Racing to go at today indeed Racing UK are covering the action from Newbury, Ayr, Cheltenham, Thirsk and Kempton. All of this means that I will be busy in the booth helping out the guys at Newbury and Ayr. Tune in from 1.00pm for some high octane quick fire action.

I have had a chance to review day 1 of the Newmarket Craven meeting and feel that in winning the Nell Gwyn Music Show put up the best performance of the day. Many pundits raved about he performance of Rumoush, but having crunched the figures I feel it would be more apt to enthuse about Music Show. In the Nell Gwyn she posted a speed figure of 110 and did so without getting a good trip through the race, even Kieran Fallon sounded surprised that she was able to make up ground wide on the track away from the favoured rail. Rumoush posted a figure of 102 and did so despite being green. She is an imposing filly who had paddock watchers salivating, she has potential as well, but as of now she cannot run as fast as Music Show who at 8/1 in places for the Guineas represents solid each way value.

I did not watch the Prime Ministerial debate yesterday and am not really bothered about it either. I just feel completely disengaged from the Political scene and as such was happy to got to my local and enjoy a few pints and a pizza whilst a pub quiz was taking place. We did not enter the quiz and it was a good job that we gave it a miss because without a shadow of a doubt we would have finished last by some way. Of course there are some professional quizzers out there and you have got little chance against those boys that’s for sure.

Right enough nonsense from me for another day. I need to get to the office and have a look at the Thirsk card which I will be dealing with during this afternoons show. Its going to be a busy day, make sure you join us.

Today’s Selections

3.15 Newbury – Rasmy (each way 7/2 Paddy Power)

5.20 Thirsk – Dispol Kylie (each way SP)

4.45 Thirsk – Highland Warrior (6/4 Betfred)
