Captain's Blog, April 9

My Mum would be proud of me. It is 8.15am on Friday and I have already been to Tesco’s and done a weeks worth of shopping. I zipped round the store in record time and would have been home 10 minutes earlier if the checkout attendant had not been intent on chatting about every item I had bought. He even suggested that I must be thirsty as he passed a box of 15 cans of Strongbow through the scanner. I had to admit that a cup of tea would be nice but that 15 cans of Strongbow would be a little indulgent at this time of the morning. He also wanted to know whether we were having a Roast on Sunday and that if he was having one he would fancy Lamb. We are having one and beef is the joint we will be roasting and he is definitely not invited. I felt like telling him to scan off but that would have been rude and I may not have got my all important clubcard points. I say all important because we save them up for Christmas and they always buy us our Christmas booze. Every little helps you see!

Winner finding at Aintree yesterday was difficult to say the least. A 16/1, 20/1, 40/1 and 50/1 winner made it a trappy day for Punters and I for one will be treading carefully today. Our three selections here on the Blog all bombed out big time and today will be a day of steady chiseling. Admittedly I could do with smashing one out of the park, but I will be playing a conservative Innings today.

A shorter than usual Blog for you today as I need to get into the office now and am chasing my tail a bit at the moment. Incidentally, surely after a four under par first round in the Masters Tiger Woods is going to be very hard to beat. He may have personal issues but he is a magnificent sportsman.

See you tommorow morning with a good look at the National.
