Matt Cooper's Blog - Richard Fahey has an interesting rare runner at Ludlow

Richard Fahey has an interesting rare runner at Ludlow this afternoon. The top northern flat trainer is 1-5 with his runners at Ludlow in the last 5 seasons and sends Ingleby Spirit down to Shropshire venue from his Malton base today. Officially rated 85 on the flat Ingleby Spirit started his career with a promising debut at Carlisle last month. With room for improvement in his jumping the 4yo is sure to have come on for that experience and should be more at home on Ludlow’s sharp track this afternoon. With little hurdling form to go on the race should go the way of one of the ex-flat performers. At 5/1 Fahey’s inmate represents some value compared to Agent Archie who had a similar rating on the flat and is priced at 6/4.

At Taunton I thought Arab League looked a bet to nothing in the novices hurdle at 2.40. A game winner at Fontwell last month the 6yo ran ok last time out at Ascot though his jumping went to pot in the second half of the race there. Despite having to concede 13lb to useful bumper performer Daymar Bay the Pipe horse may be able to get his own way up front and could be hard to pass dropping back in trip.
The best quality racing of the day comes from Clonmel where the Grade 2 Clonmel Oil Chase is the feature contest at 2.25. Last year’s winner Tranquil Sea should oblige again though he needs to bounce back from a lacklustre display when last seen out at Punchestown. The Grade 3 mares chase on the same card should be a more competitive race with useful mare Blazing Tempo making a quick reappearance after her defeat at the weekend. On ratings she has a clear chance of winning though it will be no easy task having to concede 12lb to improving novice Shop DJ.

Selections (1-5*)
L 3.00 – Ingleby Spirit **E/W at 5/1 (VC)
T 2.40 – Arab League *E/W at 5/1 (SJ)
