Tanya's Blog - Merchant Of Dubai is my selection for the November Handicap

Nice to see Merchant Of Dubai getting some support on the exchanges as he is my selection for the November Handicap.  He loves soft ground and by the time they run the race there will be plenty of imprints.  It is going to be a searching test for these handicappers and other than Jim Goldie’s charge there’s a saver going on Kiama Bay.   A dank day at Town Moor, but the course and stands still look tremendous.  Many golfers are trying to get a birdie in the centre of the course while many families head to the local Asdas to get provisions for their firework parties.    QUITO DE LA ROQUE makes his seasonal debut and I can’t wait.  My 2012 Cheltenham Gold Cup selection has to start somewhere, but there was no expectation from me that he would be taking on Bostons Angel and Sizing Europe!  Still it makes for a cracker in Down Royal’s 2.20   Another one of my favourites FRANKIE FIGG, now trained by Paul Nicholls returns to the course at Sandown in the 2.25.  A P McCoy won’t be needing to ask him for extra effort jumping the obstacles.  He treats the spruce fences at Aintree like hurdles!   Sometimes his complacency is his downfall.   Meanwhile in America at Churchill Downs Meeznah could surprise in the Marathon but all fingers and toes will be crossed for Goldikova in the Mile.    I have just heard word that it may not be long before we see Pocket Aces on the course again.  Monday 14 November at Plumpton is a possible start for his campaign and mark my words he is very fresh and well.   POINTERS   The last favourite to win the November H’cap was Snow Princess in 1995.   Eight of the last ten winners of the November H’cap were priced at 10-1 or bigger   Since 1980 only two winners have been aged over 5 and the majority have been aged three or four. (25 of the last 30 winners have been aged 3 or 4)   17 of the last 20 winners finished in the first four last time out.   13 of the last 16 winners of the November H’cap were drawn in a double figure stall   John Gosden has won the November H’cap four times
