Captain's Blog, April 7

It looks as if the weather is set fair for the next few days which is good news for those heading to Aintree this week. I will not be one of those heading up the M6, but I will be taking a keen interest from the Racing UK studio. That is exactly where I will be today to help with the coverage from Nottingham and Catterick and then this evening I will be in charge of the coverage from Kempton when Dave Nevison will be my guest in of the studio. It is going to be a long but interesting day and I invite you to get involved tonight via the medium of email at studio@racinguk.com. Of course I would be interested in your Grand National thoughts but I would also like to know who you think can win the US Masters this week.

The Masters of course features the return of Tiger Woods.  He is the 5/1 Favourite with most firms at the moment and seems to be confident that he can win. I am not so sure. His well documented problems have meant that competitive golf has had to take a back seat in his life of late. He must be rusty and short of his best and Augusta is not a course where you can afford to be off your game. We do not know what shape his game is in nor do we know what his mental condition is like. In short I will not be backing him to win the Masters, but I will be hoping that he wins because if he can do so after all he has gone through it will be one of the greatest Sporting achievements of all time. In Golfing terms it will be the performance of a lifetime if he manages to win and if he is in contention come the final round on Sunday I for one will be glued to my TV and willing him to make the impossible possible. If there is one sportsman on the Planet who can achieve this it is Tiger Woods. The whole tournament is going to make for some fabulous TV and I hope Gary Lineker who is presenting the game for the BBC can find a little more enthusiasm about the whole thing than he managed last year!  The Tournament starts tomorrow and I cannot wait.

Our two selections yesterday hardly covered themselves in glory. We did manage to limit the damage though with our 5/1 each way selection Punching scrambling into third at Southwell. There is some good Racing to go at today and hopefully we can come up with a winner or two to brighten up the day.

Off to the Studio now to get ready for what is a busy day. Take care out there.
