Captain's Blog, April 6

Shamwari Lodge showed us that the figures never lie by winning the feature event at Kempton on Saturday at 7/4. She had a standout speed figure of 105 from York last year and showed herself to be just as good as the figures told us she was. Indeed she only ran a figure of 83 in winning and it can thus be inferred that she won with plenty in hand, and the fact that she was not flat out to win means that she will avoid the dreaded bounce next time out. A nice winner for us and I hope you were on at the advised price of 7/4, I know the price was a bit skinny and the value seekers will have found a better bet in the race the trouble is that the value horses at big prices did not win. Value for me is backing a winner whatever the price, the markets are too accurate theses days for it to be any other way.

My Bank Holiday is extended by a day today before I head into the Studio for a three day stint from Wednesday. I am looking forward to being in the studio on Thursday and Friday for the start of the Aintree Grand National meeting which is always a meeting I have enjoyed punting at normally because you get good ground and the fastest and best horses usually win. At the moment it looks as if there may be some ease in the ground, however, we are forecast a relatively dry week so lets hope we do get decent ground. At the moment I do not have a fancy for the National and to be honest have not had a look at the race yet, but I will be posting a selection here on the blog on Saturday.

It is a lovely day in these parts so I will be getting some work done in the garden today and hopefully getting the place in order for the weekend when we have some friends staying for a couple of nights. The garden is about three weeks behind from where it was at this time last year, but will surely spring into life now that we have some mild and sunny weather. Lets just hope the weather forecasters are right about the next few days.

Right enough from me for today.  Take care out there.
