Looking ahead to Wetherby

A couple of decades ago you would never have imagined Wetherby racing throughout the summer.  Their season ended at Whitsun and then opened with the Bobby Renton Novice Chase in October, now a handicap, in the late seventies non other than Night Nurse was took along at a relentless gallop by a Dickinson flying machine Im A Driver ,who led the former Champion hurdler until the run in.  It is debatable whether the West Yorkshire course will ever return to former glories, though an attractive card is on show for racegoers today.

Woodlark Island makes a quick reappearance after winning at Fakenham yesterday, he will be short so in case he is suffering any after effects my each way selection is Ballysimon.  King Fontaine ought to break his chasing duck in the novice chase, while Ballymacduff floundered in the desperate ground at Newcastle last time may perform better today.  With morning favourite Award Winner a non runner perhaps Agglestone Rock , a runner on the flat last week, may be the one to benefit.  The form of Saveiro has been boosted in recent weeks, with wins for Benny Be Good and Caerlaverock so must go close in the Novice Hurdle, in the staying chase connections of Rusty Red went close in the big handicap chase at Carlisle with Minster Shadow on Saturday, hope they have better luck today.
