Matt Cooper's Blog - Court In Session is an eyecatching runner in Uttoxeter’s bumper

Court In Session is an eyecatching runner in Uttoxeter’s bumper. Purchased for £30,000 at the Doncaster the May Sales the son of Court Cave has won four times in Irish Points over the last twelve months. The form of those wins looks above average so it will be interesting to see how he fares now racing under rules. In receipt of 10lb (including Popham’s claim) from Worcester winner Thespis Of Icaria Martin Keighley’s runner looks a strong alternative. No doubt Rebecca Curtis’s runner will be hard to beat having scored easily on his debut but he does face stiffer opposition in Court In Session today. Having won all his points over 3m I hoping Ian Popham will make use of the 6yo’s stamina now racing over the minimum trip.

As well as the bumper I thought a couple of interesting races on the same card were the opening novices hurdle and the seller. Starting with the novices hurdle, Grandad’s Horse takes the eye having progressed nicely last season. If fit and raring to go he should take the beating with conditions to suit. Layla’s Dancer may prove the biggest danger now stepping up in trip having won over 2m here in June. A decent second to the consistent The Tiddly Tadpole at Bangor last time Tony Carroll’s gelding should go well. Throw the Bowen pair into the mix who are likely improvers it should be an informative race. Folk Tune will be looking to redeem himself in the seller 35mins later at 2.55 having thrown the race away on the run-in at Cartmel when last seen out. The 8yo definitely still has the ability but he has become quirky in recent times. If not putting it all in again Khorun or The Fox’s Degree should take advantage.

Selections (1-5*)
U 5.40 – Court In Session ***E/W at 3/1 (Corbett)
