Captain's Blog, April 1

I am delighted to report another winner yesterday here on the Blog as Carrig An Uisce responded as expected to first time Blinkers to win the selling Handicap Hurdle at Hereford. The Morning price of 100/30 did not last long and this horse went off a well backed 15/8 Favourite. I hope you managed to get involved in the race and make a few quid to fund the purchase of some large Easter Eggs. That reminds me that we are a little late in sending our Easter Cards out this year which is but one task that I have been assigned with today. My other major project involves a trip to Tesco’s to stock up for the Easter period. I am becoming so familiar with the layout at our local store that as long as I have a list I can whip round in no time. The quicker the better in my opinion!  Apart from these minor tasks I am a man of leisure today and will be heading to the gym later this afternoon before settling down to some Rugby League on the TV tonight.  The Leeds Rhinos are taking on their West Yorkshire rivals Bradford in which should be a game where Leeds get their season back on track. It will be something of a Weekend of Rugby League for us as one of the biggest games of the year takes place tomorrow when St Helens take on Wigan in the traditional Good Friday clash and then on Monday we are off to the Stoop to see the Harlequins play Hull FC.  If Saints win on Friday it will not have been a good Friday, it will have been a great Friday, I cannot wait.

Frankie Dettori seems to be energised at the start of the new flat season. He secured a double at Kempton last night and he is looking to top 150 winners this season. If he is to achieve his aim then Godolphin will have to be in good form for the duration of the Season. I suspect they will be and that Dettori’s ambition is not misplaced. Indeed his renewed vigour may well come form his inside knowledge of the quality of horses that are in the Godolphin camp. It can only be good for racing as a whole if this is the case. In terms of the jockeys championship I am not sure that Dettori or indeed Fallon will be pushing for honours because if Ryan Moore has an injury free season he is surely a shoe in once again. Having said that it is great that both his main rivals are interested in putting up a fight.

I will be taking a day off from the Blog tomorrow folks to enjoy what I hope wll be a great Friday, but will be back on Saturday with some thoughts on the days racing. I wish you all a very Happy Easter.
