Matt Cooper’s Blog - Hereford stage the sole national hunt card this evening

Hereford stage the sole national hunt card this evening with seven races taking place from the Herefordshire track starting at 4.55. Jonjo and AP look to have an excellent chance of adding to their seasonal tallies with Eastlake in the opener. The Worcester bumper winner went off un-fancied on his second hurdles start at tonight’s venue but overcame his drift in the market to run out a comfortable winner under Richie McLernon. Sure to have come on for that run he is fancied to get the better of Grand Lahou in what looks a match between the two powerful stables of O’Neil and Vaughan.

The maiden hurdle at 7.00 is another race which looks a match on paper between Jive Master and Forever My Friend. Tim Vaughan’s Jive Master has the strongest bumper form of the two and has the benefit of a recent run of hurdles having finished second behind a Gordon Elliott hotpot at Perth last month. The 6yo dual bumper winner shaped encouragingly at Perth having jumped well throughout but was just outpaced at the business end of the race by a well regarded runner. Also a winner between the flags he should have improved for that experience and should have too much for Peter Bowen’s hurdling debutant today. Though Forever My Friend looks to have the scope for jumping and should run the Vaughan runner close if taking to the hurdling game. The rest of the field look fairly moderate bar Sohappyharry who has showed glimpses of ability in bumpers. He has looked a stayer in bumpers so should be suited by the trip and the ground now making his hurdles debut.
