Captain's Blog, March 31

Pokanoket obliged for us here on the Blog yesterday at 8/1 and thanks to those of you who mailed in to say that you had backed the beast. I did get involved at 11/2 which was the price offered in the morning and therefore cost myself a few quid but a winner is a winner and the extra two and a half points would only have been icing on the punting cake which was tasty enough anyway. I hope we can repeat the dose today, but having had a quick look at the cards this morning I am not sure that will be very easy.

It looks as if Denman is heading north of the borderf for the Scottish Grand National. If he is going to win he will have to do so off a mark of 182 and he will have to be at the top of his game. The galloping nature of the Ayr track should suit and the biggest plus of all is that he will probably have Ruby Walsh back in the saddle. I think he will be hard to beat in the race but he is quoted at 5/2 and that is too short for me. It is possible that the race could just be a step too far off a mark too high, but Denman has confounded the doubters before and I certainly will not be laying him at that price either.

I am not working today and indeed have an easy ride until Saturday when once again I will be in the Mark Your Card hot seat. With some time on my hands today I will definitely be heading to the Gym and will also be taking in some Indian Premier League Cricket action on ITV4.  I have been enjoying the Premier league so far and some of the games have been very close ones played in electric atmospheres. I am also enjoying seeing some legends of the game such as Shane Warne and Matthew Hayden playing again. The coverage is a bit ropey compared to Sky but if you are at a loose end this afternoon there are a couple of games on TV starting at 11.15 am and running back to back.

Time to get some work in the garden done. I need to get some seeds sown and get them all in the Greenhouse today, ideally before 11.15am.

Have a great day.
