Captain's Blog, March 30

I have to admit that I am a bit slow out of the blocks today having had a lie in. Sometimes you need to catch up with your sleep and this morning was my time to do that. The rest was partly needed because I was out in London last night with my good friend Rob Wright who is the Racing Editor at the Times. We had a few beers and a meal and I handed over some Birthday presents for one of his his young sons. All in all it was an enjoyable evening chewing the fat about various things. Of course being out last night meant that I missed the debate between the men who would be Chancellor. However, from what I can gather it was more of a love in than a debate with all three agreeing with each other on many issues. All in all it sounds as if the Liberal democrat Vince cable was the most impressive performer on show and put the other two firmly in their place on several issues. The next TV debate will be between the three who would be Prime Minister and I wonder if it will be a more lively affair, but I doubt it.

The Racing UK cameras are at Market Rasen today where a six race card will keep us entertained through the afternoon. Since Cheltenham I have just about switched off to Jump Racing and am very much getting involved in the early season flat racing. I will of course be punting at the Grand National meeting but overall  my attention is now on the Flat. The computer Timeform subscription for the flat has been renewed and I am fired up and ready to go. The Craven Meeting at Newmarket will be upon us before we know it and I for one am very much looking forward to it.

Right I am already late with this missive today so will sign off now and wish you a peaceful day.
