Looking ahead to Fontwell and Market Rasen

Hardly surprising that the rain predicted for the north of the country proved too much for Newcastle’s final jumps meeting of their season, be safe to assume their opening flat meeting on Grand National day will be run on testing ground.

Jump racing seems to be approaching that point where the spring and summer recruits are due to reappear, yet the ground at some courses is too soft, therefore some of the races lack a bit of substance, though their is a competitive five runner novice chase at Fontwell where Martys Mission pulled up in the Jewson has a chance on previous runs.  Hardly an inspired choice to suggest a twenty once raced maiden, but if Tanktastic can be persuaded to put his best foot forward, he has the ability to take this at the weights.  Quite like the look of Quarrymount in the following handicap chase and suggest English Jim as the each way option against the Venetia Williams hotpot in the last.

One of my favourite jumps venues stages a six race card with the last race a bumper, feel somewhat cheated though when the bumper is not the seventh event.  A well bred sort out of the owners good chasing mare Fiddling The Facts, Master Fiddle looks sure to go off favourite, not the easiest journey I suppose from way down south to the Lincolnshire course, therefore we ought to take the hint that Daryl Jacob travels there for one mount for the Ben Case trained course winning mare Another Storm.  On his Leicester fourth in mid-February there is no way Raduis Bleu should be an odds on shot as predicted in the Racing Post, may well win but is no value at the quoted price.
