Matt Cooper's Blog - Classy contest at Cork

Won In The Dark and Powerstation bring a touch of class to Cork’s seven-race card. The pair square off in the seven runner conditions hurdle at 6.15. Won In The Dark is rated the highest of the runners with an official mark of 153 while Powerstation is next best on 145. The two ought to be able to fight out the finish though they are both on losing runs with either not winning a race within the last 12 months.

With that in mind Oneeightofamile and Magical Memoir both have chances of upsetting the front two. The pair come into this race on the back of a string of good runs and could still be on the upgrade. The rest of the card is full of big fields which makes things tricky for punters. Dessie Hughes’s Eye Apparent should go close in the opener having placed in better races than this. He has looked very one paced in his races so he should be suited to the step up to 3m.

Switching codes President Lincoln is a standout bet to nothing in the opener at Gowran Park. Aidan O’Brien’s 3yo looks for from straightforward having finished second in four of his last five races. Those second places have been in competitive handicaps to be fair and he looks capable of giving Zabarajad (turned over at 2/9 last time) a race of it. At 5/1 he is a bet to nothing with little else in the race to show any worthwhile form.

Selections (1-5*)
GP 5.35 – President Lincoln *E/W at 5/1 BOG
