Captains Blog, March 26

A 4/1 winner for us last night in the form of Cold Turkey who bolted up at Kempton having been heavily backed. George Baker rode him and employed the hold up tactics that suit this horse so well. The ease of his success suggests that he can win again in the near future.

It was a privilege to work with TV’s very own Nick Luck last night who turned his hand to the role of Pundit with consummate ease. He is a man for all roles and found the viewers a tasty winner in the form of Jake the Snake at 7/1. No wonder he has been Broadcaster of the year three times in a row, his fourth title is a mere formality and if an award for punditry were to be given he would probably win that as well. I did manage to chip in with a few thoughts last night but as ever Nick stole the show with his incisive analysis and dry wit. When I did put forward a view that I thought a horse was lame he put me firmly in my place telling me that he would deal with facts and that my speculation about the soundness of this beast was nothing more than conjecture. Once again Nick hit the nail on the head and I was left to marvel at his insight. All in all an excellent evening which was helped along by your missives which flooded into the studio and I must thank you for those.

I am back in the Studio today to help out with the coverage from Newbury and Carlisle and then as regular readers will know I will be heading home for our regular Friday night Rugby League night. There is a superb game on TV tonight as Wigan take on the Leeds Rhinos. On current form Wigan should win and with Leeds hit by an injury crisis will find it hard to get the better of a fully fit and confident Wigan who have home advantage. I may make it home in time to enjoy a pint or two before the game but that depends on how quickly we manage to get through racing Replay which is recorded after the Racing itself is over. It will be no disaster if I do not make it to the pub before the game because I need to be on top form for Dubai World Cup day on Saturday.

I must apologise for the fact that our Blog selection for the Lincoln tomorrow is now a non runner because of the rain that has fallen at town moor over the last few days. Trainer Brian Meehan will now aim Manassas at Newbury in a few weeks time. We have done our money on this fellow and I am annoyed that we have but hopefully this horse will repay us when he reappears because his profile says that he is best fresh.

I am heading off to the Gym again this morning before going to work so I need to get a move on and get my workout done. Have a profitable and peaceful day.
