Matt Cooper’s Blog - Swingkeel got us a winner on board at Royal Ascot

Swingkeel final got us a winner on board at Royal Ascot taking the concluding Queen Alexander Stakes for John Dunlop and Ted Durcan. Saturday’s final day of Ascot also saw Ryan Moore swoop late to take the crown of top jockey from under the nose of Richard Hughes. Moore joined Hughes on three winners for the week by winning on Maybe and Await The Dawn in the first two races. With Moore having more placed efforts throughout the week than Hughes he took the honours.

There are five meetings on today across the UK and Ireland, Racing UK viewers will be able to catch all the live action from Kempton this evening. In Ireland Granaruid has strong claims in the opening maiden hurdle at Kilbeggan. Mick Halford’s 8yo shaped well on his reappearance at this course fifteen days ago and is entitled to close if building on that run. The booking of Paul Carberry is a positive and with no doubts regards the trip or the going he looks good to make the frame at least in a weak race. Glenstar is likely to start favourite and is the one to beat though looks short enough at the current prices available. Of the others Jack The Hat and Ahead Ahead both showed ability last time and are entitled to go well if repeating those efforts. Ninth Legion is another worth a mention though he needs to bounce back from a poor effort at Punchestown last time.
