Looking ahead to Haydock, Hereford and Warwick
There looks to be a fair bit of rain forecast, therefore with the later start times the ground could get progressively worse throughout the day. It would be appropriate if The Hollow Bottom took the opening handicap chase at Haydock after last weeks celebrations at that pub following the Gold Gup day triumphs of the local stable. Its tough to name the winner. Jass performed with credit on his last run at Newcastle and had been campaigned over extreme distances prior to that run, he was a dual bumper winner in his youth,so clearly has pace. A horse I have followed since his performances over the brush hurdles here at Haydock is Nevertika. He seems to have somewhat lost his way after being transfered from the Kate Walton yard to the James Ewart outfit, he runs for the same owner. It will be interesting to see if there is market support for him.
Blast from the past with the famous Bill Shand-Kydd silks on view in the maiden hurdle with A.P. donning them aboard Silver Blondin for Nicky Henderson who trained Brown Windsor for the then owner. Play On Words is certainly bred for the job out of Triumph winner Snow Drop, the lightly raced seven year old is overdue. The champions only other ride should ensure he does not leave empty handed, William Hogarth will not have a better chance to lose his maiden tag.
In the first at Hereford, Bull Market has been the subject of gambles lately only to have been withdrawn prior to racing, be interesting if the market speaks in favour again in a winnable race. After backing Merry Music several times it was painful viewing to see him stride up the Towcester hill to register his first hurdling success last time at a big price, think I will let him go unbacked at today’s predicted odds. More for the future than today, Mister Hyde has travelled well in his two novice races thus far, I shall be keeping an eye on his performance today.
