Ursus ran a decent race last night a Sedgefield finishing third behind hotpot Odin’s Raven. The 16/1 shot was no match for the easy winner but comfortable made it into the top three. Connections will do well to find a race for Ursus as stamina looked a weakness again last night. A track like Cartmel may play more to his strengths.

Newmarket flop Midsummer Sun is set to go off a warm order again in Haydock’s maiden stakes at 4.35. Henry Cecil’s son of Monsun was highly touted before his debut but failed to spark during the race. Despite finishing fifth the form of the Newmarket race has worked out very well with three wins and second coming from four of the runner’s next time out. Connections will be hoping he can make amends this afternoon. Cecil also runs another promising 3yo in the second division of the maiden at 5.05. Solar Sky was an excellent second behind World Domination at Newbury on his debut and should win this if progressing from that run. Tom Dascombe’s highly tried Sunday Bess is the main danger on form and may give Solar Sky the most to do.

Switching codes Tipperary holds a competitive eight race card tonight starting at 5.10. Rocco’s Hall holds decent claims in the beginners chase at 7.15. Edward O’Grady’s 9yo shouldn’t be far away if running up to the best of his handicap form.

The hunter chase at 8.20 is an interesting contest. Impressive Cork winner Make It Better looks set to go off a short price to follow up last month’s win. His chance is respected though the value may lie with Unanswered who has been contesting in stronger races than this. Despite a few doubts regards his jumping 16/1 seems a fair price and he may be worth a small play in an uncompetitive race. Dermot Weld’s Merchant Royal is the other horse to through into the mix, he was going well for a long way last time in the Champion Hunters at Punchestown before blowing up 2 out. The winner should come from one of the three mentioned, hopefully Unanswered. My strongest bet of the day is Milano Supremo at Wetherby. Chris Grant’s 6yo has some decent bumper runs to his name and started to translate that form to hurdles last time when finishing second over the course behind Oscar Barton. He needs to step up on that form to trouble Chucklemix but looks the only one in the field capable of doing that. At 3/1 he is worth a play E/W.

Selections (1-5*)

W 3.40 – Milano Supremo ***E/W at 3/1+

T 8.20 – Unanswered *E/W at 16/1+
