Nina Carberry became the latest member of her family to win the Irish Grand National yesterday partnering Organisedconfusion to success. Nina’s win completes a clean sweep for the Carberry clan with brothers Paul and Phillip and father Tommy all winning riders in the race previously. Keeping the success in the family the winner was trained by Nina’s uncle Arthur Moore. The winning trainer was quick to stop any talk of a crack at next year’s John Smiths Grand National afterwards by saying the 6yo would not be suited by the 4m4f trip at this stage of his career. Fairyhouse hold their final day’s racing of their Irish Grand National meeting this afternoon. The Grade 2 novice hurdle at 5.30 looks a high class event on paper. Last Instalment has been impressive in three rules starts to date and has to be respected with more improvement to come. The Gigginstown 6yo looks sure to be a high class staying chaser in time and is making a good name for himself this season over hurdles. He takes a step up in class today but I would like to think he was good enough to be in the shakeup. One horse that might have too much speed for him is Pineau De Re. Phillip Fenton’s 8yo has been running consistently well in top grade novices and may go closer here. Earlier on the card Viking Splash should win the hunters chase for Shark Hanlon. The son of Stowaway is one of the best hunters around in Ireland and is sure to appreciate the weight concession he gets from top pointer Rudi Trucker. The concluding bumper is an interesting event with three UK challengers making the trip over. Theatre Guide looks the pick on form and will go close if repeating his Chepstow run. Jessie Harrington’s Sarfield’s Pride is the pick of the Irish challenge of those that have had a run, though all should find Theatre Guide hard to beat. Today’s nap is City Ground who runs in the opener at Sedgefield.
