It was interesting to read Aintree Foxhunters winner Baby Run was among the 25 entries remaining in the Bet365 Gold Cup at the five day stage. The 11yo has been a superstar for the Twiston-Davies’s giving brothers Sam and Willie big race wins. Big brother Sam is back on board on Saturday with the family seeking further big race glory. The bookies have installed the game front running hunter as favourite for the Grade 3 Handicap. Baby Run could be well handicapped of a mark of 136 on his best performances in hunter chases though the extended 3m5f trip is something of an unknown. With him being one my favourite horses in training I will be hoping he can make all under his usual aggressive front running tactics. Another interesting runner amongst the entries is last year’s winner Church Island. Michael Hourigan’s veteran is bidding to become only the third horse to win this race in consecutive years. Having not shown much in a spin over hurdles and more recently on the flat the 12yo has something to prove going into Saturday’s race.

On to today’s action, it’s fairly competitive racing at each of the five UK meetings. Racegoers at Fontwell are set to get value for their entry with the West Sussex track staging a mammoth eight race card. The card kicks off with a decent novice hurdle at 2.20. Radius Bleu is set to go off favourite for Alan King and Choc Thornton. The consistent French bred is yet to win a race in eight starts and looks worth opposing again today under faster conditions. Rossmore Lad made a promising debut at Warwick last month and should be in the shakeup if improving for that effort with the today’s longer trip likely to suit the Irish point to point winner. At the current prices I prefer the penalised Camden who has been running in better class races than this. If he can put behind him his recent poor run he has the form to win this. Another positive factor for his chance is that trainer Oliver Sherwood boasts a 35% strikerate at the course. Hopefully he can improve on this today.
