Doncaster’s Lincoln handicap is the feature race of a busy Saturday’s racing. Taqleed heads the market for John Gosden and owner Hamdam Al Maktoum. Last seen finishing sixth in the Cambridgeshire last season the son of Sharmaedal carries high hopes today. Richard Fahey is likely to have a say in the outcome with the northern supremo saddling six of the twenty-two runners. Irish Heartbeat and Prime Exhibit appear to be the trainer’s best hopes according to the betting with stable jockey Paul Hanagan choosing the former. Later on the card Ocean Transit it is an interesting runner in the first division of the 1m2f handicap. Richard Price’s improving 6yo was last seen at Cheltenham just over two weeks ago finishing third to Quevega in the David Nicholson Mares hurdle. If she can translate that form to level she could be well in off 77. Elsewhere Chepstow staged an excellent eight race card with two good quality novice hurdles at the start of the card. I’m particularly looking forward to the 2.45 where promising novices Rangitoto and Storming Gale do battle.

Today’s NAP runs in the 2.40 at Gowran Park with Eight Is My Number being the selection. Gordon Elliott’s 5yo was last seen in November when running third to Gagewell Flyer at Navan. Given a sympathetic ride that day in testing conditions today’s step up in trip and better ground should prove more favourable. Paul Carberry in the saddle is another positive especially as he has a decent strikerate for the selection’s trainer. Shifa is sure to go off favourite for Patrick and Willie Mullins but the French import has been costly to follow so far and I’m far from convinced the step up in trip will suit. Don’t Tell The Boys rates a live danger for Phillip Rothwell with a bumper win already to his name. He is obviously held in some regard by connections as he was last seen out making his hurdling debut in a Grade 3 contest at Tipperary. After taking a crashing fall early on that day it will be interested to see how he fares on his reappearance this afternoon.
