Matt Cooper's Blog

A bit of a return to form yesterday for the blogs tips with a 6/1 winner and a 4/1 second, hopefully more of the same today. Jumps action this afternoon comes from Sedgefield and Newbury (live on RacingUK racinguk.com/tv-schedule) with flat action from Wolverhampton, Lingfield and Dundalk. Choc Thornton will be looking to continue with his recent good form at Newbury. Thornton has four mounts for Alan King at the Berkshire track this afternoon with all four looking to have leading chances. Bless The Wings is the first of those mounts in the opening maiden hurdle at 2.10. A decent runner up at Wetherby earlier in the season the 6yo was a tad disappointing last time out when labouring into sixth place at Ffos Las. If the son of Winged Love can overcome that disappointing run he appears to have a leading chance today. Emma Lavelle’s Easter Meteor is the one to beat on ratings and should go well on favoured decent going. Amongst Choc’s other rides Patsy Finnegan has a favourite’s chance in the novices handicap chase at 3.50. A runner up on all three starts this season the 9yo appears to have a good chance of going one place better this afternoon. Up at Sedgefield I like the chances of Bridlingtonbygones in the opening novices hurdle. Karen McLintock’s former bumper winner has shaped okay in two hurdle starts to date and looks open to improvement now experiencing better ground. A decent runner up in a stronger event over the course in November was followed up by a moderate run in softer conditions at Musselburgh last time. The son of Bobs Return looked to be still learning the ropes that day and should be better for that experience today. Shadows Lengthen is the one to beat on form though he has to shoulder a 7lb penalty for his recent Catterick win while former useful flat stayer Scriptwriter has looked a shadow of himself in two hurdle starts this year. Bridlingtonbygones rates a bet to nothing at 9/2.

Selections (1-5*)

S 2.20 – Bridlingtonbygones *E/W at 9/2+
