Ruby’s diary - March 1
It’s been great being back at Paul (Nicholls)’s the last couple of mornings, especially when you have horses like Kauto Star, Master Minded and Big Buck’s to get on.
I rode all three on Monday and they went really well. They looked fit and fresh and I couldn’t have been happier, both with my own and their wellbeing. I’m not really sure what their programmes are from now until Cheltenham, but they'll be put through their paces again. Paul’s the trainer though, I’m just happy and lucky enough to be riding them.
This morning (Tuesday), I sat on Kauto Star again and also Aiteen Thirtythree, Al Ferof, Niche Market and Definity and it’s all systems go. I’m not feeling any pain and it’s business as usual. I’m flying back home to Ireland now and then due see the doctor tomorrow, but it’s just a formality and routine appointment. I must say I’ve become quite good mates with the doctor, as we’ve been spending a lot of time in each other’s company. We’re on first name terms alright!
And then I’ll be back in England on Friday, when I will probably have one to two mounts at Newbury. I might have a ride in the two-mile-five-furlong novice hurdle – I see Paul has four entered – and possible Don’t Turn Bach in the novice handicap hurdle. Hopefully Paul can get me back on a winner.
It’ll be a case of easing myself back into the saddle and I’ll probably only have a couple of rides again on the Saturday at Newbury. It’s exciting times and I’m just counting down the hours now until I’m back on the racecourse.
